We’re here to help!
A Welcome from the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council
Piedmont started a Diversity Council in 2019 to help guide institutional efforts in being a more inclusive environment and better support all students, faculty, and staff. The Council was comprised of about 25 faculty and staff members. The Council met monthly and started building a foundation for initiatives around diversity and inclusion.
In summer 2020, a small steering committee met regularly to assess the progress of the Council and where we would like to go from here. The Council is now the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council and is comprised of faculty, staff, and students.
We are excited to continue to improve Piedmont University’s efforts for further developing an inclusion environment for all students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Piedmont’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Council was established to ensure that Piedmont provides a supportive and inclusive environment for all identities for faculty, staff, and students in the Piedmont community. These include but are not limited to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, ability status, age, and place of origin.
We commit to enhance understanding of diverse identities in order to educate the Piedmont and surrounding communities. We commit to support and advocate for the entire Piedmont community. We commit to cultivating mutual respect, empathy and understanding through education and initiatives to develop global leaders with diverse identities.
The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council will continue to assess the institution’s policies, practices, and programs in a timely manner to ensure that its diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives are effective.
More information about the institution’s focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion will be available soon.
