EYES: Exploring Your Environment Through Science
Are you curious about your surroundings? Do you want to know how everything works?
Do you love spending time outside exploring your environment? The Natural Science
Department at Piedmont University is offering you the chance to experience being a
science major for the day. During your time you will meet the faculty and students, see all
of our student research projects and attend classes and labs.
EYES is an all-day event for high school juniors and seniors interested in biology,
chemistry and environmental science. Participants will spend the day at Piedmont
attending classes, performing lab experiments, learning instrumentation and doing field
work in the wetlands and streams. (Parents dropping off students are welcome to stay for a tour of the campus and informational session.)
The cost for this event is $25. This covers the cost of registration, lunch, lab supplies and a t-shirt.
Participants should wear comfortable clothing for outdoor and indoor lab work. Long pants and closed-toed shoes are required. You may also want to bring a hat, extra shoes and some bug spray for the field work.
Activities for the day include:
- Attend a Class or Activity in the following areas:
- General Chemistry
- Environmental Science
- General Biology I or II
- Geology
- Perform laboratory experiments
- Have hands-on demonstrations of instruments
- Tours of Labs and Research Projects
- Field Work in the Wetlands and Stream Ecosystems
