Art Reception | Regional African American Museum of Northeast Georgia
On exhibit from Jan. 8-16
Experience the Regional African American Museum of Northeast Georgia (RAAM) at Piedmont University's Mason-Scharfenstein Museum of Art. This collection of work was founded in 2010 by pillars of the community in Cornelia dedicated to preserving the cultural heritage of communities who attended the Cornelia Regional Colored School; an “equalization” school built and maintained by Boards of Education in Banks, Habersham, Rabun, and White Counties 1955-1966, to avoid integration of said counties' high schools; prior to Brown v. Board of Education. This collection features outstanding accomplishments of those communities. The exhibition also celebrates the recently endowed Piedmont scholarship in Davenport's honor. Her dedication to RAAM as curator-president and partnering with the Digital Library of Georgia to create a pilot digitization project will ensure the future of this incredible collection.
