Normando Ismay is a multi-media artist based in Toccoa, Georgia. Ismay was born in Argentina, where he studied metalworking. In 1974, he moved to Atlanta, where he continued his studies at Georgia State University.
Ismay quickly became a vital part of the Atlanta art community, working with the Nexus Theater, and becoming a member of Alternate ROOTS. He founded the underground gallery, Little Beirut Art Space, which hosted exhibitions, poetry readings, and theatrical performances. Ismay’s traveling project, Café Bizzoso, toured the United States from the 1980s through 2018, providing temporary venues for collaborative performances and artist shows. He taught at Atlanta’s Federal Penitentiary, began a Spanish-language children’s camp, and organized the first Latino art exhibition in Atlanta.
This is a satellite exhibition hosted in partnership with the Lyndon House’s “Rescue: Waste and Redemption,” a multi-venue exhibition organized by Lizzie Zucker Saltz. The Lyndon House is located in Athens, Georgia.
The MSMA is located at 567 Georgia Street, Demorest, GA 30535. The museum is open Tuesday-Saturday, 12–5 P.M. For more information, please contact Rebecca Brantley at rbrantley@piedmont.edu.
