Message From The President
Uniquely positioned in northeast Georgia and the city of Athens, Piedmont College has a distinctive history that dates back to 1897 when our Demorest campus was founded in the rugged foothills of the Appalachian Mountains.
We are a dynamic small college that offers a variety of career-oriented majors in the arts and sciences, business, education, and nursing. The 200-acre Demorest campus serves about 1,000 undergraduate students, 72 percent of whom live on campus. Our cosmopolitan Athens campus is designed for commuting students who are seeking to complete their undergraduate education or earn a graduate degree.
Piedmont is dedicated to the transformative power of education through reciprocal learning. And we are committed to enhancing the student experience. This year, participation in our Maymester Travel Study Program shattered all-time records. Undergraduate and graduate students traveled and studied in foreign and domestic destinations including Chile, Ireland, France, Switzerland, Germany, and Washington, D.C. And this fall, we will welcome national Greek fraternities and sororities to the Demorest campus for the first time.
At Piedmont we know that participating on a team sport can deepen campus connections, promote resilience, and instill discipline. Cultivating a vibrant athletic community is part our culture. About a third of our undergraduate students participate on one of 19 NCAA Division III teams. But we do more than compete. We win. This year, our athletic programs won the USA South President’s Cup for the second year in a row. The coveted honor recognizes the winningest athletic program in the conference.
While providing these rich experiences, Piedmont is committed to making a private college education attainable. For the 2018-19 academic year, we awarded approximately $11 million in student scholarships and grants.
During a time when many small college are struggling with enrollment, our unique blend of providing an affordable, transformative and career-enhancing education is being embraced by students and the college rankings. During the past five years, we have enrolled record classes. And Piedmont has been recognized by US News & World Report as a top regional college and best value. I invite you to see what others are saying about Piedmont.
In Athens and Demorest, Piedmont is an institution that is teeming with energy and enthusiasm. Rooted in our past, we are optimistically embracing the future. I invite you to visit our campuses and learn more about this remarkable community.
