Studying the why behind human behaviors.
Psychology strives to understand why people behave as they do. Psychology is the science of human behavior and mental processes. Environmental, experiential, and physiological factors that influence behavior are all included within this area of study.
A goal of the psychology program is to cultivate analytical and interpersonal skills. These skills enhance all social relationships. In addition, individuals who can think, analyze, and express themselves clearly are highly valued by employers.
Our majors work in various areas of counseling and social work; psychology degrees are excellent preparation for leadership in professional careers. Opportunities at Piedmont include:
- Psi Chi International Honor Society
- Internship options that enhance students’ academic experience, and future professional prospects. Standard internships are available as well as those discovered and developed by students.
- Nearing the end of the program, students enrolled in relevant courses design their own research studies on topics of special interest to them.
- Psychology majors may attend the Southeastern Psychological Association annual conference to present original research.
Approximately 50 percent of our psychology graduates go on to earn advanced degrees including law degrees.
