Piedmont University is proud to host Conserving America’s Wildlands: The Vision of Ted Turner, an exhibition by Emmy Award–winning filmmaker and photographer Rhett Turner. The exhibition opens with a public reception on Thursday, Oct. 16, from 4:30 to 6:30 P.M. at the Mason-Scharfenstein Museum of Art.
Drawn from Turner’s new book of the same title (Rizzoli New York), the exhibition features striking photographs that capture the beauty and ecological richness of twenty-three Turner family properties, which include more than two million acres. These wildlands span the Rocky Mountains and Dakota grasslands to the coastal plains and mountain rivers of the Southeast, including the local Soque River.
Rhett Turner offers a rare glimpse into the conservation practices that have shaped and preserved some of America’s most breathtaking wildlands. His portraits of wildlife include North American bison from the herds that Turner’s efforts have helped to repopulate. This exhibition offers something for everyone, whether you’re drawn to stunning landscapes of America’s wildlands, inspired by the resilience of native species, or curious about the role private landowners can play in ecological preservation.
Conserving America’s Wildlands: The Vision of Ted Turner comes to Piedmont University after traveling from the organizing institution, the Booth Western Art Museum (Cartersville, Georgia) to the Museum of the Rockies (Bozeman, Montana) and New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science (Albuquerque, New Mexico). It will be on view at Piedmont University through May 9, 2026.
