Piedmont University offers 2 paths to its Master of Science in Athletic Training: A combined undergrad and graduate path (the 3+2 internal approach) or a more traditional 2-year graduate program.

Piedmont University’s athletic training pathway offers an innovative “3+2” program that gives our students a tremendous advantage. That is because 3+2 allows our students to earn an undergraduate degree in exercise and sports science or applied health sciences while simultaneously working towards a master’s degree in athletic training – and all within five years. The fast-track program features 166-167 hours of course work (either for an exercise and sports science major or an applied health science major).
Piedmont University’s MSAT program provides hands-on learning through supervised patient care at local high schools, colleges, and medical centers. In addition, students will participate in two semesters of immersive clinical experiences. Accelerated 3+2 students will complete 3 years as undergraduate students and 2 years in the professional graduate program—they will graduate at the end of the 5th year with BS in Exercise and Sport Science or Applied Health Sciences and an MS in Athletic Training degrees.
Student-athletes are welcome to participate in their sport every year. Traditional entry into the Piedmont University MSAT program is also accepted and encouraged. Our MSAT programs boasts well rounded small cohorts of both internal and external students.
Piedmont University’s Athletic Training program ensures that students are ready for three crucial exams: the BOC (Board of Certification), CHES (certified health education specialist), and CSCS (certified strength and conditioning specialist). Students enjoy and excel with our small cohort sizes, faculty mentorship, individualized attention, and interprofessional disciplinary opportunities, students will feel confident in their abilities to pass these important professional exams.
To obtain entrance into the masters of science in athletic training program at Piedmont University, traditional-entry students must hold a bachelor’s degree in exercise science, health science, or a related field from an accredited institution before entering the two-year professional phase of study. Students with degrees in other areas should contact the program for a list of leveling courses. The 3+2 option allows students who declare a course of study with intentions of obtaining their masters degree in athletic training and complete all prerequisite coursework to begin the graduate athletic training program during their fourth year of studies.
