Piedmont Performs in Style 

You can see Piedmont University’s commitment to the arts by the venues in which our students and faculty display their talents. Our performing arts and visual arts centers offer world-class settings in which our Lions show off their passions and talents. These venues include:

Swanson Center for Performing Arts & Communications 

nThe Department of Theatre performs in venues in and around the Swanson Center for Performing Arts and Communications. The three main venues are the W.R. Cleere Mainstage Theater, the Blackbox Theater, and the Arrendale Amphitheater. Each venue provides a different atmosphere to give the students and audiences the most variety possible while at Piedmont.

Arrendale Amphitheater

This 350-seat outdoor performance venue features a sculpted metal roof that covers the stage and a portion of the seating area. The amphitheater hosts a wide range of public events, including university performances, student showcases, and community concerts.

Smith-Williams Art Studio

Completed in 2012, the Smith-Williams Art Studios house spacious facilities for both two- and three-dimensional art. The building includes dedicated studios, ceramics kilns, and flexible teaching spaces. It is named in honor of Virginia Baxter Smith Williams ’29 and her husband, William D. Williams.

Mason-Scharfenstein Museum of Art

tThe Mason-Scharfenstein Museum of Art is the university’s permanent art museum, showcasing works from the permanent collection as well as rotating exhibitions featuring students, faculty, and visiting artists throughout the year.

Springer Mountain Farms Center

This $10.1 million facility features a concert hall with adjustable acoustics, acoustically isolated teaching studios, classrooms, a digital music suite, and dedicated practice rooms. It is home to 27 Steinway pianos, underscoring Piedmont’s distinction as an All-Steinway School.

Piedmont University Chapel

The Chapel serves as the primary venue for performances by the Conservatory of Music. Known for its excellent acoustics, the Chapel hosts dozens of student, faculty, and guest artist concerts annually. Its recording capabilities support broadcast, archiving, and classroom use.
