Piedmont alum included in Georgia Trend list
Jessie Owensby, a 2015 graduate of Piedmont College, has been included in Georgia Trend Magazine’s distinguished 40 under 40 feature. This list is a who’s who in their profession and represents those passionate about community service.
Owensby has deep roots in northeast Georgia. After graduating from Piedmont, she became news director at WCON in Cornelia, where she interviewed interesting people, and built relationships and connections throughout the community. It was her passion for community that led to her next job: Community Development Manager for the city of Cornelia.
In this position, she oversees strategic planning and manages tourism, an area that has fueled business growth and investments in Cornelia and the surrounding area. In August, Owensby was awarded a level-one certification by the Georgia Downtown Association at the group’s annual conference in Jekyll Island, Georgia.
A mass communications major, Owensby said Dr. Dale Van Cantfort was among the many Piedmont professors who have offered her valuable career counsel. “Dr. Van Cantfort kept me motivated throughout my time at Piedmont,” she said. “He remains my biggest cheerleader, mentor and supporter, I call him for advice today.”
