Piedmont and area high school wind, chamber ensembles set concerts
Area wind ensemble enthusiasts have the opportunity to hear music by large and small groups at Piedmont College April 11, at the campus in Demorest. And on April 13, the Piedmont Wind and Chamber ensembles will perform. Admission is free, and everyone is invited.
At 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 11, in the Chapel, the Wind Ensemble Partnership Concert, conducted by Vicki Pinson and hosted by Wallace Hinson, will feature the Piedmont Wind Ensemble joined by musicians from seven area schools for a concert featuring close to 90 instruments.
The wind concert will include arrangements from such classics as the Star Spangled Banner, Vicksburg, The Valiant, and America from West Side Story.
In addition to the Piedmont Wind Ensemble, the group will include players from Banks County High School, Jon Congdon, Director of Bands; Habersham Central High School, Ryan Dukes, Director of Bands; Rabun County High School, Matthew Leff, Director of bands; Chestatee High School, Daniel Merck and Ernie Phillips, Directors of Bands; Hart County High School, Alan Tolbert, Director of Bands; South Habersham Middle School, James Geiger, Director of Bands; and White County High School, Michael Pickett, Director of Bands.
At 7:30 p.m., Saturday, April 13, the Piedmont Wind and Chamber ensembles, directed by Dianasue Walton, will perform a variety of works for brass, woodwind, and percussion. Pinson and Walton will conduct.
The Piedmont wind and chamber will feature works from Antonín Dvořák - Humoresque No. 7, Andrew York – Numen, and Charles Lefebvre - 2nd Suite for Winds 1. Enttrada.
