Professional Biography & Experience
Dr. Mark Newton is on the faculty of the Harry W. Walker School of Business at Piedmont College in Athens where he is starting the new Hospitality and Tourism Management Program. Dr. Newton taught Marketing and Sports Marketing classes for the past two years at the Demorest campus. Mark retired in 2016 as the Director of the Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management Program at Gwinnett Technical College in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Mark also taught two online classes at Georgia State University - Hospitality Law, and Service Marketing until May 2018.
Mark is a graduate of the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University, and has worked over twenty years in various upper level management jobs in the hospitality industry. Dr. Newton returned to school and earned his Masters and Doctoral Degrees from the University of Georgia. He taught at Gwinnett Tech for over twenty-nine years and earned thirteen, teacher of the year awards including the State of Georgia – Rick Perkins Award.
Dr. Newton is the 2002 member of the year in the National Speakers Association – Georgia Chapter. He is also a board member of Explore Gwinnett. Dr. Newton has lead seminars and consulted for clients such as Marriott Hotels, Explore Gwinnett, Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International, Wallis Oil Company and Certified Oil. He has written several published articles such as Employee Retention Strategies, Winning the Recruiting War, Finding Great People, and Managing Your Career.
Mark has been happily married for 37 years to Susan and has 36-year-old twins, Ben and Ally. He has also five grandkids including 2 year old triplets.
