Professional Biography & Experience
Walter Keel is a Senior Fellow at the Walker School of Business. Prior to teaching full-time at Piedmont College in 2011, Mr. Keel had adjunct teaching assignments at Reinhardt University, Oglethorpe University, and Duke University. He earned his MBA, with a concentration in finance and accounting, from Duke University, and his BBA, with an accounting major, from Wake Forest University.
Mr. Keel spent most of his career with Deloitte, one of the “big four” accounting firms. There, he served in various roles, including auditing, operations, finance, and strategic planning. In addition to Deloitte, he served as Chief Financial Officer or Chief Operations Officer for several entrepreneurial companies. Most of these companies were focused on developing and marketing new technologies.
Mr. Keel has been an active Certified Public Accountant since 1976. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Georgia Society of CPAs (Northeast Chapter). He is also a member of the Georgia Association of Accounting Educators.
Since arriving at Piedmont College, Mr. Keel has been assigned to teach the Principles of Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Intermediate Account, Cost Accounting, and Auditing. His focus has been on effectively teaching the basics of accounting to business majors, and supporting those that concentrate in accounting or finance with the necessary skills, experiences, and connections to begin their career.
