Students Should Register Early to Get the Classes They Want

Students start seeing messages about registering for spring classes about midway through the fall semester. Registration “opens” for different classes on separate dates. At Piedmont University’s residential campus in Demorest, staggering the opening dates gives seniors and graduate students a better chance of getting the courses they need to move toward graduation. 

In Demorest, this is the registration schedule:

Oct. 16: Current seniors and graduate students may register for spring classes.

Oct. 17: Registration opens for students who are now in their junior year. 

Oct. 18: Sophomores may begin registering.

Oct. 23: Current freshmen (first-year students) may register for spring classes. 

Seniors and graduate students typically have priority but there is an exception to that rule at Piedmont. Students attending the Athens campus may register for spring classes beginning Oct. 9-13. 

Students may register through the student portal Self-Service on the Piedmont app or website. That is also where they can access their student financial account and review the course catalog. 

Before registering for classes, all students must communicate with their academic advisor. Failing to complete this step will result in a “hold” on registration for the student. They cannot register for classes until they complete this step. 

A hold may also be placed if the Student Financial Responsibility Agreement has not been signed. This is another requirement. All students must sign the agreement acknowledging that course registration creates a financial obligation to Piedmont University. Students are responsible for the payment of the resulting tuition, fees, fines, and any other charges that have been authorized to be posted to their accounts. This step may also be completed via Self-Service.

Students are encouraged to clear any holds on their accounts so they can register as soon as possible to secure the courses they need and class times they prefer. 

While registration opens on these dates, students can still register for classes through the end of the current semester, and even into the next one in some cases. However, a delay could mean that students find themselves in the 8 a.m. English 1101 class instead of the 10 a.m. option they wanted.For more information about registering for classes, students should speak with their academic advisor.
