Art Reception | Ashlyn Pope
The “Ashlyn Pope: A History of Moving Forward” exhibit at Piedmont University's Mason-Scharfenstein Museum of Art is featured as part of the Northeast Georgia Arts Tour June 14-16 and will be on view through September 26. A public reception will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 26. Ashlyn Pope is an artist and educator of Gullah descent. Her ceramics and textiles draw from African and Gullah influences. She is an Assistant Professor at Coastal Carolina University in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where she also serves as Associate Director of The Charles Joyner Institute for Gullah and African Diaspora Studies. Pope holds an MFA from Penn State University and a BFA from Kennesaw State University. Pope's work has been exhibited throughout the United States, including Alfred University (New York), the Palmer Museum of Art (Pennsylvania), and Baltimore Clayworks (Maryland). Her ceramic sculpture was featured on the cover of the magazine Ceramics Monthly in December 2023. Both the exhibit and reception are free to the public.
