Jan Walker is an artist and educator who has contributed to the northeast Georgia art community for the past 45 years. Born in New Hampshire, Walker opened The Children’s Gallery in Cornelia in 1979. Since then, she has taught drawing to over 3,000 children, teens, and adults. In 1984, she created the Knee Neep, a character initially drawn on the knee of one of her students. Walker has since authored a series of books featuring the Knee Neeps, including The Kingdom of Neep (1993), Gloomy (1993), and The Christmas Neep (2021). Walker’s drawings also depict local landmarks such as Lake Russell and the Chenocetah Lookout Tower. She was the subject of a popular exhibition at the Mason-Scharfenstein Museum of Art in 2021 titled “Jan Walker Presents: The Christmas Neep.”
