Professional Educators whose goals include serving as a school administrator may wish to consider a program in School Leadership with an emphasis on instructional leadership.
Programs Leading to State Certification
Piedmont College has been approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission to offer a Tier I (building level) certification program. Educators who hold professional educator certification in Georgia (who have three or more years of teaching experience) and who demonstrate disposition for school leadership, and who successfully complete requirements for certification, are eligible for recommendation for Tier I educational leadership certification.
Additional information is available for the certification programs in School Leadership.
Independent School Leadership Studies (non-degree)
In response to new requirements instituted by the Georgia Accrediting Commission, heads of independent schools are now required to provide evidence that they have earned a minimum of fifteen (15) graduate credits in school leadership/administration. The School of Education has developed a sequence of five, three-credit graduate courses in order to meet this need. It is anticipated that the courses would be offered in a hybrid cohort format whereby participants would attend some class meetings, augmented by the use of online or other distance learning technology.
Additional information is available for Independent School Leadership Studies.
