Computer information systems at Piedmont College is designed to complement many other academic disciplines in addition to business administration. The focus of the discipline is on the employment of information systems and technology to add value and improve the performance of organizations. Students in the program learn the essential elements of computing systems, systems analysis, integration and design, organizational use of information, and managing information technology systems. The goal of the CIS program is to prepare graduates to manage and support the effective use of computer-based information systems by organizations.
The study of computer information systems, in conjunction with business administration or
another academic discipline, prepares the student to seek employment in virtually any type of
public, private, or government organization. The increasing use and influence of information
technology in both world commerce and society makes the skills promoted in the program in
high demand. Career opportunities include positions in system analysis, database administration, network administration, programming, and website management.
