GACE Basic Skills Exemption

A passing score on the GACE Basic Skills tests, or a valid exemption, is required of all candidates seeking their first teaching certificate in the State of Georgia.

Students claiming an exemption from the GACE Basic Skills tests must provide documentation supporting the claim with their application for Admission to the Piedmont College School of Education. Documentation may consist of a high school transcript, a college transcript, or a testing agency score report.

Exemptions are automatically granted to students holding a master's degree from an institution accredited by either the U.S. Department of Education, (http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation) or The Council for Higher Education Accreditation (http://www.chea.org).

Exemption score criteria are as follows:

SAT exemption - 1000 total combined math and verbal (not including writing portion)

ACT exemption - 43 total combined math and english

GRE exemption -

Old format (prior to 08/01/2011) 1030 total combined verbal and quantitative scores

New format (on or after 08/01/2011) 297 total combines verbal and quantitative scores
