How To Apply For Teacher Certification

These instructions are for Piedmont College education students who have completed their program for teacher certification and wish to apply for their certificate in the state of Georgia. The agency in Georgia that issues teaching certificates is the Professional Standards Commission (PSC).  Read the instructions below and then follow this link or the link at the bottom of the page to return to the Early Childhood Education page.

There are a number of steps required to apply for your teaching certificate, depending on your status:

  1. The applicant sets up a MyPSC account with the PSC.
  2. The applicant completes the Application for Certification and provides required documentation, such as transcripts and/or GACE Basic Skill exemption scores.
  3. Piedmont College completes a PSC Approved Program Recommendation Form and submits this, along with your Application, electronically through the PSC ExpressLane digital transmission portal.
  4. If you have already been teaching under a non-renewable certificate then your employer also completes the Employer Assurance form and submits this electronically themselves.
    Please Note:  If you are already teaching with a non-renewable certificate your employer may want to process your application themselves.  In this case you will need to request your official Piedmont transcript yourself AND notify me that you require a Program Recommendation.  I submit the Recommendation form electronically.

As long as your paperwork is complete, and all requirements have been meet, Piedmont will electronically submit your paperwork immediately upon graduation. PSC processing has been approximately 3 days to 2 weeks.  If you have complications due to incomplete forms or your background review then it may take longer.

  • You can fax your forms but please follow up with an email so we can be sure to look for your fax .
  • Submit your paperwork when everything is COMPLETE.  We will not hold onto incomplete forms or unassociated documents.
  • When required we must receive official transcripts from every other educational institution you have attended, except Piedmont, in a sealed envelope from their Registrar.
  • We will be submitting the Approved Recommendation Form to PSC along with your official Piedmont transcript from the Piedmont Registrar. You do not need to get your Piedmont transcript yourself.
