Bill LoydLoyd joins Piedmont College as Vice President for Institutional Advancement

Bill Loyd of Cornelia has been named Associate Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Piedmont College. In making the announcement, interim President Dr. James Mellichamp said Loyd will direct the development, marketing, and public relations functions at the college, which has campuses in Demorest and Athens.

Loyd comes to Piedmont from South Carolina Bank and Trust, the parent company of Community Bank and Trust, where he served as senior vice president and public relations consultant. He also served as president of Creative Solutions, a marketing resource company affiliated with CB&T.

“At Piedmont, the institutional advancement and development arm of the college is responsible for the comprehensive marketing of our 115-year old institution—its programs and services,” Dr. Mellichamp said. “We selected Bill Loyd to head this department because of his dedication to his field and his strong background in marketing and education. Having served as a Trustee of Piedmont, Bill understands our mission and our vision better than most. He has served on the Development Committee of the board as well as the Church Relations Committee. We are delighted that he has accepted this position and we look forward to his leadership.”

“I am honored to have been selected for this position,” Loyd said. “The Development team now in place does a phenomenal job of promoting the college. Each member has an energetic attitude, an ability to lead, and the willingness to serve. I look forward to being an integral part of this endeavor and to serving an extraordinary institution like Piedmont College.”

A 35-year veteran of the financial services industry, Loyd has served the field of marketing not only as a practitioner with Community Bankshares and its corporate affiliates in Georgia and Alabama, but also as director of the Georgia Banking School—a cooperative of the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business and the Georgia Bankers Association.

A native of LaGrange, Ga., Loyd graduated from the University of Georgia and is an honor graduate of the Georgia Banking School. He completed graduate studies at the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University.

He recently completed a three-year term on the Board of Directors of the American Bankers Association’s Education Foundation and currently serves on the editorial advisory board for the ABA Marketing magazine. He has been a classroom instructor at the South Carolina Bankers School at the University of South Carolina, and a course coordinator and lecturer for the Graduate School of Banking at L.S.U.

A Certified Financial Marketing Professional (CFMP), Loyd’s work in marketing has been recognized nationally, and in 1999 he was selected by Banker’s Review magazine as the top bank marketer in the Southeast and one of the top six bank marketers in the nation.

Active in civic, church and professional organizations, Loyd is a past "Distinguished" Lieutenant Governor of the Georgia District of Kiwanis, a past president of the Cornelia Kiwanis Club, and a George F. Hixson Fellow of Kiwanis International. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Habersham County Chamber of Commerce, as Chairman of the Habersham County Library Board of Trustees, and as an officer and Trustee of the Habersham Christian Learning Center.

He has served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Piedmont College, as Chairman of Programs for Academic Excellence in Habersham County and on the Cornelia Better Hometown Board of Directors. He is a member of the United Way Board and has also served as Chairperson of the Alliance for African American Music and on its planning committee since 1992.

Loyd's wife, Marcia, works with the Habersham County School System. They are members of the Cornelia United Methodist Church where Bill serves as organist and director of music—a position he has held for the past 35 years.
