The number “One” is the theme for the upcoming concert by the Piedmont College a capella group, Cantabile. The performance is at 5 p.m., in Brooks Hall on Nov. 1, or 11-1-11.
The performance is free to community members. Brooks Hall is located downstairs in the Chapel.
On the program are songs that have obvious connections to the number one, such as “All at Once Well Met” by Thomas Weelkes and “One Voice” by The Wailin’ Jennys, arranged by Emily Allison. Other songs include number one hits by the Beach Boys and the Beatles, and “Africa” by one-hit wonder Toto.
Cantabile is made up of 10 singers, selected after a rigorous audition process, said the group's director, Dr. Wallace Hinson, chair of the music department at Piedmont. “Being part of this ensemble offers students an alternative to the other performing groups on campus,” said Hinson. “It is a lot of fun for me to work with students of this caliber.
