The rain held off until the last putt had dropped at the 2011 Coach O’Neal Cave Memorial Golf Tournament held April 15 at The Orchard in Turnerville.

Some 84 golfers from across Georgia joined in the annual tournament named for the late Leon O'Neal Cave, who served as a coach and athletic director at Piedmont from 1948 to 1983. This year’s tournament, sponsored by the Piedmont College Alumni Association, raised some $6,000 for the Coach Cave Athletic Endowment.

First place went to the team of Richard Puckett of Stockbridge and John Cullen, Randall Rozier and Curt Crozier, all of McDonough, who scored a 53 in the four-man, best-ball tournament. In second place at 55 was last year’s winning team of Trent DeMore of Mt. Airy, Mike McCall of Helen, and Brandon DeMore and Richard DeMore, both of Demorest.

The third place honors went to the team of Corbett Harper of Clermont and Lewis Harper, Earl Dockins and Jimmy Black, all of Demorest, who shot a 56. Also at 56 was a Piedmont team made up of Dusty Rogers of Cleveland, John Dzik of Demorest, Lee Glenn of Turnerville and John McQueen of Atlanta, who took home the fourth place award.
