German opera singer will perform at Piedmont
Marc Deaton, tenor, will perform at 7:30 p.m., Jan. 22, in the Piedmont College Chapel. Deaton, accompanied by Lucas Wong, piano, and Robert Glass, narrator, will perform “Ein Heldenleben: The Hero in German Opera.”
Deaton’s opera performances include roles in “Tristan and Isolde,” “Siegfried,” “Moses und Aron,” and “Carmen” with leading opera companies and orchestras. In 2010, he released two CDs: “Sehnsucht,“ featuring the lieder of Richard Strauss; and “A Wagner Portrait,” conducted by Glen Cortese. Deaton was also the subject of a much acclaimed documentary “Being Tristan: A Tenor’s Journey,” which was broadcast on PBS. This hour-long documentary portrays the many facets of Deaton's career during the period leading up to and during his performances of Tristan in Bulgaria.
Deaton will perform pieces by Handel, Mozart, Beethoven, Strauss, and many more. The concert is open to the community with $10 general admission and $5 for seniors and students. Piedmont College students, faculty and staff are admitted free.
