Piedmont held December graduation

Piedmont College will hold Commencement ceremonies at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 11, at the Johnny Mize Athletic Center in Demorest.
The graduates include 117 students who will receive bachelor of arts, bachelor of science, and bachelor of science in nursing degrees. The School of Education will award diplomas to 313 teachers receiving graduate degrees, including master’s and education specialist degrees. The School of Business will award master of business administration degrees to 23 graduates.
The Commencement speaker is Dr. Paul Shaw, Superintendent of the White County School System. Shaw began his career in education as a social studies teacher and has served as superintendent in South Carolina and Georgia. Now in his 11th year in White County, he was recently named Superintendent of the Year in Georgia for 2010, an honor he also earned in South Carolina in 2000.
Dr. Betty L. Siegel, Piedmont College Board of Trustee member since 2002, will receive an honorary Doctor of Letters degree. Siegel retired from Kennesaw State University after serving as president from 1981 to 2006. She continues to pursue new initiatives for ethical leadership and has conducted workshops on education and leadership in England, China, South Africa, and Crete.
