David Higgs sets organ concert here Oct. 22

David Higgs, one of America’s leading concert organists, will perform at the Piedmont College Chapel in Demorest. Part of the annual Sewell Organ Concert Series, Higgs will perform at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 22. The concert will include “Fantasia and Fugue in G minor” by Johann Sebastian Bach and “Soliloquy” by David Conte.

Admission is $10 for adults $5 for students. The concert is free to Piedmont faculty, staff, and students.

A native of New York, Higgs began his career as a church organist at age 10. He went on to earn bachelor’s, and master’s degrees in music at the Manhattan School of Music, and he received the Performer’s Certificate from the Eastman School of Music.

Higgs is chair of the organ department at the Eastman School of Music and has been a faculty member there since 1992. He performs with numerous ensembles, including the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Orpheus Ensemble, and the Empire Brass.
