TEACHING
Brian Hitselberger teaches two-dimensional studio-based courses, which include mediums ranging from Drawing, Painting and Printmaking. Beginning-level courses focus on the development of a variety of techniques ranging from illusion and representation to material expression and/or abstraction, while Intermediate- and Advanced-level courses focus on the development of more individualized directions and the production of substantial bodies of work created with conceptual intention. All courses incorporate the study and discussion of works from art history as well as contemporary practice as a means of developing a sound understanding of the relationships that exist throughout each. Special research areas include the intersections of visual art and literature, the role of the artist in contemporary life, and politics surrounding art, activism and empathy.
