The Piedmont College Theatre Department will open its 2007-2008 season with the Neil Simon Comedy “God’s Favorite” on Oct. 19-21. The show will be the premiere production in the new Swanson Center for the Performing Arts and Mass Communication on the Demorest campus.

Friday and Saturday evening performances begin at 7:30 p.m., and the Sunday matinee curtain is 2 p.m. The box office will begin accepting reservations on Oct. 1. For ticket information please call 706-778-8500 ext. 1355, Monday through Friday from 1-5 p.m.

Dr. Rick Rose, chair of the theatre department, will direct the play in the Swanson Center’s state-of-the-art 350-seat proscenium theater. “This has been an amazing experience to have a facility that enables complete expression of our creativity,” Rose said.

Rose said the play “is a very funny comedy that is so respectful to the story and meaning of the book of Job. It is a wonderful combination of comedy and the poignant relationship between Joe Benjamin and God.”

“God’s Favorite” is a based on the biblical story of Job. With family, career, and wealth, Joe Benjamin seems to have it all. However, when his faith is tested, suddenly life is not heavenly as it may appear. The N.Y. Daily News remarks, “Awesomely funny. . . . It’ll make you laugh out loud.”
