Curtain goes up on Performing Arts Center in Demorest Workers from Choate Construction have completed work on the new Center for Performing Arts and Mass Communication, which opened on the Demorest campus this fall. The Center is located across Demorest Lake from the Arrendale Library. In addition to roadways, it is accessible by a new footbridge across the lake. President Ray Cleere said the center will be a "signature facility" for the college and "will create an entertainment and learning environment second to none in the region." In addition to the main theater, the Center includes a "black box" theatre for smaller productions, as well as a scene shop, dressing rooms, costume shop and storage space. For the mass communications department, the Center includes state-of-the-art studios for television and radio production, and computer labs for print and online media production. It also includes faculty office space and a large central lobby. The building was designed by Brewster & Crocker Architects of Gainesville and is being built by Choate Construction Company of Atlanta. The entire project is being managed by Rosser International of Atlanta. -30-
