Chamber Singers to move 'Heaven and Earth' (10-27-04) The Piedmont College Chamber Singers will present a concert celebrating "Heaven and Earth" at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 4, in the Center for Worship and Music at the campus in Demorest. Conducted by Dr. C. Wallace Hinson and accompanied by David Volk, the Chamber Singers will perform works by composers Vodnansky, Palestrina, Lauridsen, Dubra, Dove, and Whitacre, as well as spirituals and folksongs on the theme of heaven and earth. Admission is free and the concert is open to the public The Chamber Singers perform a wide variety of music from the Renaissance period to works of the 21st century. Known as a choral group that sings with great precision, the Chamber Singers are also noted for their performance of ethnic choral music from Eastern Europe, Jamaica, and South Africa; contemporary choral music; and American folksongs and spirituals. The Chamber Singers is the touring choir of the college, and has performed concerts all across the U.S. and Canada. The concert also will include performances by Cantabile, a highly select group of nine singers from the Chamber Singers. Cantabile specializes in jazz, pop arrangements, and novelty songs, as well as secular and sacred chamber music from the Renaissance and early Baroque periods.
