Piedmont Chamber Singers set Fall Concert

(11-4-05) The Piedmont College Chamber Singers will present their annual Fall Concert at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 10, in the Center for Worship at Piedmont's main campus in Demorest. Admission is free.

Director Wallace Hinson said the theme for this year's concert is "Mother and Child" and the singers will explore songs about the bond between parents and children, songs for and about children, and even songs written by children. The concert will include works by Palestrina, Herbert Howells, J.S. Bach, Mendelssohn, and Eric Whitacre.

Made up of about 40 select student singers, the Chamber Singers perform a wide variety of literature from the Renaissance period to works of the 21st century.  Known as a choral group that sings with great precision, the Chamber Singers are also noted for their performance of ethnic choral music from Eastern Europe, Jamaica, and South Africa; contemporary choral music; and American folksongs and spirituals. The Chamber Singers is the touring choir of the college, and has performed concerts all across the U.S. and Canada.
