Piedmont Chorale   More than 130 local singers will take part in this year's 'Concert of Lessons and Carols' featuring the Piedmont Chorale and the Habersham Central High School Singers.

16th 'Concert of Lessons and Carols' to ring in the holidays at Piedmont College

The Piedmont College Chorale and Habersham Central High School Singers will present their annual "Concert of Lessons and Carols" at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 3, and again on Saturday, Dec. 4, at the college's Center for Worship and Music in Demorest. The concert is free and everyone is invited.

This is the 16th anniversary of the annual concert, which will include readings from the story of the birth of Christ, accompanied by choral pieces.  The choirs will perform works by classic and modern composers and the audience is invited to join in the singing of a number of traditional Christmas hymns.

The Piedmont Chorale is composed of singers from the college and the northeast Georgia community under the direction of Dr. Wallace Hinson, with assistant conductor Donna Bunn James. The Habersham Central High School Singers are directed by Bobby Ivey. Accompanists include organist Dr. James Mellichamp and pianist Dr. Phillip Hayner. The performance will also include John Bailey and Phillip Holcomb on trumpet, and Rebecca Buffington and Greg Leathers on trombone.

Readers will include the Rev. Dr. Ashley Cook, the Rev. Herb Snedden, Dr. Betsey Blakeslee, Russ Spangler, Dr. Lisa Hodgens, Dr. Barbara Steinhaus-Jordan, Dr. Garen Simmons, Dr. Tim Lytle, Dr. Curtis Bradford, and the Rev. Dr. Barbara Brown Taylor.
