Piedmont faculty sets organ concert(3-20-06) While the Sewell Organ at Piedmont has received much attention in recent years, the college celebrates the installation of a second organ at 7:30 p.m., March 24, in the Center for Worship and Music's Brooks Hall. (More) The Brooks Hall organ, built by Parkey Organ Builders in Atlanta, is smaller, just 150 pipes, but like the Sewell Organ features a mechanical action keyboard, said Dr. James Mellichamp, vice president for academic affairs. "As our music program continues to expand, and with numerous students and faculty members scheduling time on the Sewell organ, it has been a bit of a nightmare. The new organ allows us to teach or practice on an instrument with mechanical action when the Sewell Organ is not available," he said. Friday's concert will feature performances by Mellichamp and professors Joy and Phillip Hayner, as well as vocal performances by professors Barbara Steinhaus-Jordan and Wallace Hinson and student Micah Dingler. They will perform works by Bach, Mozart, Heinrich Schutz, and an original work by Phillip Hayner. |
