Cooper memorial service set for June 25 (Related Story) Piedmont College will hold a memorial service for women's basketball coach Charles Cooper at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 25, in the Center for Worship and Music in Demorest. The memorial service is open to the community and will be officiated by Dr. Ashley Cook, chaplain at Piedmont College, and Dr. Bill Cashion, pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Clarkesville. Coach Cooper, who led the Lady Lions basketball team for seven seasons, died June 13 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. Funeral services were held June 17 in Valdosta, where Cooper had been a long-time coach at Valdosta State University and at Lowndes County High School. "During his 49 years in coaching, Charles Cooper had an enormous impact not just on his players but on the lives of everyone who had the good fortune to be around him," said Piedmont President Ray Cleere. "He loved the competition of coaching, but he also loved watching his players go on to succeed in life in every different field. In no small way is their success tied to what they learned from him on the basketball court." -30- |
