Mostly Mozart concert set for Piedmont Jan. 21 (1-13-06) Piedmont College will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of Mozart with a concert Jan. 21 by soprano Dr. Barbara Steinhaus-Jordan, associate professor of music. The 7:30 p.m. concert, which features four works by Mozart, will be held in the Center for Worship and Music at Piedmonts main campus in Demorest. The concert is free and the public is invited. Dr. Steinhaus-Jordan teaches voice at Piedmont and earned a bachelor’s degree in music from Georgia State University and a master’s degree in music from the University of Illinois. She earned a doctorate in musical arts at the University of Georgia. She has taught voice at Piedmont since 1997. The concert will also include Piedmont students Bethany Fisher, soprano; Patrick Anderson, tenor; Haley Jordan, alto; and Jeremy Bishop, bass; with Dr. Wallace Hinson, conductor. Accompanist are Joy Hayner, piano and organ; Heather Strachan and Allison Mueller, violin; Edie Bensen, viola; and Mary Alice Swope, cello. Selections for the concert include Mozart's "Bella mia fiamma . . .Resta, o cara," " Vesperae Solennes de Confessore," "Quartet No. 1 in G Minor," and " Ch’io mi scordi di te. . . Non temer, amato bene." The concert will also include "Adagio for Piano Trio" by Estonian composer Arvo Paert, based on themes from Mozart’s "F Major Piano Sonata." -30- |
