Wissinger and Lugo plan Piedmont concert

The flute and guitar duo of Donna Wissinger and Eddy Lugo will perform a free concert at Piedmont College in Demorest on Thursday, Jan. 19. Part of the college's Early Bird Concert series, the performance will be held at 5 p.m. in Brooks Hall in the Center for Worship and Music.

The pair will perform classical and modern works ranging from the 16th to the 20th centuries including "Canon in D" by Johann Pachelbel, "Nocturne" by Francesco Molino, and "Histoire du Tango" by Astor Piazzolla.

Flutist Donna Wissinger has been hailed as a dynamic international star whose concerts include recitals on the main stages of Carnegie Hall and tours of Europe and the U.S., as well as a highly successful tour throughout several republics of the former Soviet Union. She made her New York recital debut at Carnegie Recital Hall in 1984 and subsequently played recitals in New York under the auspices of Artists International, whose Distinguished Artist Award she won in 1986 and 1988.

Guitarist Eddy Lugo is a versatile musician whose musical roots cover rock-n-roll, blues, classical, and jazz. Lugo graduated with a bachelor’s degree in guitar performance from Florida Southern College and continued his studies at the Manhattan School of Music in New York, graduating with a master’s degree in guitar performance. He currently teaches and performs at Florida Southern College, Hillsborough Community College, and the University of Tampa.  He is regularly a guest performer with the Florida Orchestra.
