'Amahl and the Night Visitors'
Students in the Piedmont College Opera Workshop and the Habersham Central High School Singers will bring back one of the favorite American operas, "Amahl and the Night Visitors," by Gian Carlo Menotti with two performances Jan. 11-12 in Demorest. The 7:30 p.m. production with orchestra accompaniment will be held in the new Swanson Center for Performing Arts and Communications on the Piedmont campus. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students. Piedmont faculty, staff and students are admitted free. (More)

3 x 3: One-Act Plays
The Piedmont College Theatre Department will present its premiere production in the new Black Box Theatre at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 27-29.  The evening of theatre entitled "3 x 3: One-Act Plays" is constructed around three one-act plays directed and designed by Piedmont College Theatre students. PC Wind Ensemble sets Nov. 15 concert
The Piedmont College Wind Ensemble will present a free concert at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 15, in the Center for Worship and Music at the campus in Demorest. Directed by Patricia Jameson, the Wind Ensemble will present works by Richard Saucedo, W. Francis McBeth, John Higgins, Arthur Frackenpohl, John Williams, and selections from the first movement of Mozart’s “Symphony No. 40 in G minor.”

German ‘Lieder’ focus of Piedmont concert
Piedmont College voice professor Dr. Barbara Steinhaus, accompanied by internationally recognized accompanist John Wustman, will present a program of German Lieder in concert at the college Sept. 15. The 7:30 p.m. concert is free and will be held in the Center for Worship and Music at the Piedmont campus in Demorest. Piedmont Chamber Singers set 'Magnificat'
The Piedmont College Chamber Singers and Orchestra will perform J.S. Bach's "Magnificat" at 7:30 p.m., April 26, in the Center for Worship and Music in Demorest. The concert also will include works by Palestrina, Clausen, Britten, and Paert. Dr. Wallace Hinson, director of ensembles at Piedmont, said the concert includes "an eclectic program of music from the Renaissance to the present that was written in honor of the Virgin Mary." The PC Theatre to present children's play April 18-22
Piedmont College Theater Department is wrapping up its 2006-2007 season with a children’s theater production of "East of the Sun & West of the Moon." This production is very special to the department as it is directed by senior theater major Danielle Bailey Miller and is produced by Alpha Psi Omega, Beta Chapter, of the National Theatre Honor Society. "East of the Sun & West of the Moon" will be performed at Jenkins Theater in Daniel Hall on the Piedmont College Demorest campus. Garen Simmons address first December Commencement
(Dec. 10, 2006) The Johnny Mize Athletic Center in Demorest was full for the third time this year as Piedmont College held its first December commencement ceremony for 287 new graduates. Together with the 865 students who graduated in May and July, the Piedmont Class of 2006 swelled to 1,152 students, eclipsing the previous record of 1,021 students in the 2004-05 school year. (More)

Summer music camps set for June 26-30
Weeklong music day camps at Piedmont College will be held June 26-30 for students in grades 2-5 and grades 6-11. Called "SLAM: Summer Learning About Music," the camps will include instruction in piano, music theory, rhythm and movement, sight reading and tonal memory, and choir singing. (More)

Piedmont College held its commencement week activities for 537 new graduates at 4 p.m., Sunday, April 30, with a baccalaureate service in the Center for Worship and Music in Demorest. Chamber Singers to present concert featuring Sewell Organ
The Piedmont College Chamber Singers, a select 38-voice choir under the direction Dr. Wallace Hinson, will present a concert on Thursday, April 27, 2006, at 7:30pm, in the Piedmont College Center for Worship and Music.  The concert, titled “Light Eternal,” will feature the choir and the Sewell Pipe Organ, played by Mrs. Joy Hayner, Assistant Professor of Music and organist for Covenant Congregational Church, on “Lux Aeterna” by Canadian composer Morten Lauridsen. Piedmont to hold Foxfire workshops for teachers
(2-28-06) Piedmont College will hold two summer workshops for teachers who want to implement the Foxfire approach to classroom instruction. The first workshop, for teachers K-12, is scheduled for two weeks, June 12-23, at the Foxfire Center near Clayton, Ga. The second workshop, for college instructors, is scheduled for one week, July 9-14, also at the Foxfire Center. The workshop will cover the 11 Foxfire Core Practices designed to engage students in their subject and will include an examination of Foxfire’s pedagogical foundations. (More)

Hayners to premier work by Leslie Bassett in concert here Feb. 25
A piano and organ concert by Piedmont College music faculty members Phillip and Joy Hayner will feature the world premier of a composition by Pulitzer prize-winning composer Leslie Bassett. In addition to works by Schubert, Szymanowski, and Milhaud, the Hayners will perform Bassett's new composition for piano and organ, "Hammered Strings and Whistling Pipes," featuring the 3,675-pipe Sewell Organ. 'Quink' ensemble to perform at Piedmont
(1-20-06) How do you spell vocal excellence? In the Netherlands, it is spelled "Quink," the name of a five-person vocal ensemble that has delighted audiences worldwide. Derived from the Dutch words "kwetteren" (to chirp), "kwinkslag" (to joke), Quink will bring their brand of not-so-serious a capella singing to Piedmont College. (More)

Family of late coach Charles Cooper establishes memorial scholarship
The family of the late Piedmont College women's basketball coach Charles Cooper has created an endowed scholarship fund in his honor. The fund, established by Cooper's widow, Jean Cooper, will "honor the life and achievements of coach Cooper and help carry on his work of aiding women who desire to attend college." (More)

Piedmont waives expenses for evacuee students
(9-7-05) College students who have had to flee hurricane Katrina in the Gulf states may soon be picking up their studies at Piedmont College in northeast Georgia. Piedmont President Ray Cleere said the college currently has room for 30-40 additional students and will waive tuition, room and board during the fall semester for students displaced by the storm.
