National Cathedral organist Erik Suter to perform Feb. 25 at Piedmont (2-10-05) The Sewell Organ Concert Series at Piedmont College will feature Erik Wm. Suter, organist at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. Suter will present a concert at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 25, at the Piedmont College Center for Worship and Music in Demorest. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and students. Piedmont faculty, staff and students are admitted free. A native of Chicago, Suter holds degrees from Oberlin Conservatory and Yale University. He has held the positions of organ scholar at Trinity Church, Copley Square, and assistant organist at the Parish of All Saints, both in Boston; and assistant organist and choirmaster at Trinity Church on the Green in New Haven, Conn. In addition to his duties at the Cathedral of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, also known as the National Cathedral, Suter maintains an active solo recital schedule and teaches organ at American University. He has performed extensively in the U.S. and Canada in addition to appearing in Japan, Scandinavia, England and the Iberian Peninsula. He has performed at national conventions of the American Guild of Organists and the Organ Historical Society. Suter won first prize in the 1993 Chicago American Guild of Organists Young Organist’s Competition; the Gold Medal of the Mayor of Musashino/Tokyo in the 1996 International Organ Competition Musashino in Japan; and first prize in the 1997 Yale Biennial Organ Competition. He was a two-time finalist in the AGO National Young Artists Competition in Organ Playing. Suter has been heard on the nationally syndicated Minnesota Public Radio show “Pipedreams," and has recorded for the JAV Recordings, Gothic, and Pro Organo labels. -30- |
