Atlanta Singers concert set for Feb. 21

The Atlanta Singers, a professional 16-voice ensemble now in their 27th season, will perform a free concert at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 21, in the Piedmont College Center for Worship and Music Demorest.

The Atlanta Singers have developed a reputation for excellence in performing a wide range of choral pieces from medieval sacred hymns to works by modern composers. The group has made several recordings, and portions of their past Christmas concerts at Spivey Hall were broadcast by National Public Radio’s “Performance Today.”

Artistic director and conductor David Brensinger is director of music and organist at Holy Innocents Episcopal Church in Atlanta. He has also performed as keyboardist with the Atlanta and Dallas symphonies, the Robert Shaw Singers, and in recitals in the U.S. and France.

The Atlanta Singers have released several CD recordings, including, “An American Sampler,” featuring the world premier of a Stephen Paulus song cycle commissioned for the group. Also included is an assortment of popular American melodies ranging from Shaker tunes to contemporary arrangements of folk songs, spirituals and show tunes.

At Piedmont, the group will perform works by Ernest Walker, Johannes Brahms, John Lennon and Paul McCartney, and Moses Hogan.
