GraduatePiedmont begins 109th year

Cathy Henson, founder of the Georgia School Council Institute, was the Convocation speaker to mark the start of the 109th academic year at Piedmont College on Wednesday. Henson, who served on the Georgia Board of Education from 1999 to 2003, is also a member of the Piedmont Board of Trustees. She noted that only 56 percent of Georgians graduate from high school and only about 24 percent of Georgians complete a college degree. Henson urged the students to finish college, not only for the monetary advantages that it offers but also because college helps students to be life-time learners. "Most people do not stay in just one career anymore," she said. Enrollment at Piedmont is at a near-record level with more than 2,100 students enrolled for the fall semester.
