Written in 1923, King David is a “symphonic psalm” on the Biblical story of David, King of Israel, from his youth until his death. Rich in harmonic color, the piece consists of short musical episodes for a small orchestra, soloists, and narrator. Although this piece is rarely performed today, the first performance of the work made it an instant success and firmly established Honegger’s reputation as a composer.

Included in the performance are soprano Dr. Barbara Steinhaus-Jordan, associate professor of music at Piedmont College; alto Donna Bunn James, instructor of music at Piedmont; and Bradley Howard, tenor. Also performing will be St. John Flynn, Manager of the Georgia Public Broadcasting radio network, as the narrator.
