Chamber SingersPiedmont Chamber Singers set 'Magnificat'

The Piedmont College Chamber Singers and Orchestra will perform J.S. Bach's "Magnificat" at 7:30 p.m., April 26, in the Center for Worship and Music in Demorest.

The concert also will include works by Palestrina, Clausen, Britten, and Paert. Dr. Wallace Hinson, director of ensembles at Piedmont, said the concert includes "an eclectic program of music from the Renaissance to the present that was written in honor of the Virgin Mary."

The concert marks the first time the Chamber Singers have performed with an orchestra, and they also will be accompanied by Joy Hayner on the Sewell Organ. Admission to the concert is $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and students. Piedmont faculty, staff, and students are admitted free.

Members of the Chamber Singers include sopranos Jennifer Babel, Rebecca Barnes, Leah Della Torre, Amber Dodd, Emily Giardina, Sarah Jean Miller, Laurel Mullinax, Ashley Shaw, Kristen Taylor, Stefanie Watkins, and Mary Beth Williams.

Altos include Chelsea Angelich, Maria Arenas, Courtney Branson, Portia Burns, Maghan Holmes, Abbey Meents, TaShara Lee, Katie Sawhill, Leslie Sokal, Heather Thomas, and Heather Vaughn.

Tenors are Jeff Akana, Patrick Anderson, Charron Davis, Thomas Dunbar, Greg Holder, Jonathan Kostulakos, Brandon Nonnemaker, and Kyle Thurmond. The bass singers include Jeremy Bishop, Patrick Hawkins, Phillip Hayner, John Paul S. Jordan, Paul Meier, Kenny Rainey, and Allen Wheeler.

The 16-member orchestra includes violins Alison Bates, Elizabeth Jobson, Alison Mueller, and Heather Strachan; viola, Edie Benson and Rebecca Jones; cello, Janet Holt and Mary Alice Swope; flute, Karen Callaway and Betsy Strauss; oboe, Mercer Crook and Paige Burns; soprano sax (trumpets), Aaron Durst, Marc Gilley, and Brian Ulrich; and timpani, Daniel Merck.
