ENSEMBLES AT PIEDMONT COLLEGE

PIEDMONT CHORALE

The Piedmont College Chorale, with over 100 singers, brings the Piedmont campus together in song by uniting students, faculty, staff, alumni, and members of the community.  Performances this year will include the Annual Concert of Lessons and in December, as well as the Great Composers Series Concert during the spring semester.  Piedmont Chorale has gained the reputation as one of the finest large ensembles in Northeast Georgia, noted for their energy level and expressiveness in performance.  


*CHAMBER SINGERS

This select 36-40 member ensemble performs a wide variety of literature from the Renaissance period to works of the 21st century.  Known as a choral group that sings with great precision, the Chamber Singers are also noted for their performance of ethnic choral music from Eastern Europe, Jamaica, and South Africa; contemporary choral music; and American folksongs and spirituals.  The Chamber Singers is the touring choir of the college, and has performed concerts all across the US and Canada.   Admission to the Chamber Singers is by audition only.  


*WIND ENSEMBLE

The Wind Ensemble is a group of woodwind, brass, and percussion players from across campus that performs for home basketball games as well as regular concerts on campus.  Auditions are required.  Private instrumental instruction is strongly suggested and encouraged while a member of the Wind Ensemble.  (**See below).


OPERA WORKSHOP

The Opera Workshop gives the amateur singer experience in performing One-Act operas and operatic scenes.  All major operatic styles are performed from the 17th and 18th centuries to the present.  Singers have the opportunity to perform ensemble sections, recitatives, and arias by composers including Mozart, Verdi, Strauss, and Puccini.  Auditions are required and each member must be registered for private instruction in voice (**See below).


CANTABILE

Cantabile is a highly select group of 9-12 singers from the Chamber Singers that specializes in jazz, pop arrangements, and novelty songs, as well as secular and sacred chamber music from the Renaissance and early Baroque periods.  Quickly gaining a reputation as a highly entertaining and skilled group of singers, Cantabile performs in concert, at special events on campus and in the community, and on tour.  Membership is by audition, and participation in the Chamber Singers is required.  Please contact the Department of Music at 706-778-8500 ext. 1356 for booking information.


COVENANT CHURCH CHOIR

This choir rehearses weekly to perform and lead music in Sunday services for Covenant Congregational Church, located in the Center for Worship and Music on the Piedmont College campus in Demorest.  Consisting of students, staff, and church members, this choir performs the best in traditional sacred choral music and contemporary music suited to blended worship experiences.  No audition is required.  This ensemble does not earn college credit for students.



 

*Scholarships are available through audition for music majors and ensemble participants, up to $1000.00 per academic year.  Please call the music office at 706-778-8500, ext. 1211 to set up an audition.

**Private instruction is also available for all interested students in voice, piano, organ, guitar, woodwinds, brass, and in any instrument for which an instructor can be secured.  Please contact the music office for more details.
