| From the earliest times,
no civilization seems to have been without music in some form. Some
cultures failed to develop pictorial art, and many have been without
written language; but music, the universal form of communication,
can be documented in virtually every society. Whether in primitive or
in modern times, music has served some of mankind's basic needs. Across
time and national boundaries, without regard to social class or
political ideology, music speaks directly to the heart and to the
emotions; it is truly the universal language.
The Piedmont College Department of Music is one of the fastest growing small college music departments in the state of Georgia. Starting with one faculty member and no students just 14 years ago, the department has grown to five full-time and eight part-time instructors, two undergraduate degrees in music and two graduate degrees in music education, and private studios in voice, piano, guitar, organ, brass, woodwinds, and percussion. Our five ensembles total nearly 200 singers and instrumentalists. It is our hope that you will come and be a part of our growth and experience the warmth, collegiality, and dedication to music that is at the heart of the Piedmont College Department of Music. |
