PROGRAMS
The Bachelor of Arts in Music, Performance Concentration is designed with the primary emphasis being the development of performance skills and musicianship through applied study, solo performance,and ensemble participation. The degree requirements include a one hour solo recital in the senior year. The Bachelor of Arts in Music, Church Music Concentration prepares students for a career as a church or temple music director or organist, combining music performance and teaching. The degree requirements include a one hour solo recital in the senior year. The Master of Arts in Teaching degree in Music Education is an initial certification program for those students wishing to teach music, P-12. This degree program is designed to help pre-service teachers understand how to make a difference in the lives of children through music. All students seeking this degree must complete the requirements for the Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance degree (or equivalent) prior to being accepted into the graduate program in Music Education. The Master of Arts in Music Education degree is designed for certified teachers to gain additional study in music, pedagogy, and research. Geared toward those teachers already in the field, this degree leads to advanced certification in the state of Georgia. The Minor
in Music is designed for students who are majoring in
another
area but have an interest in the music area. Undergraduate
students may choose an Interdisciplinary Studies Major, which can include course work in
music. Under the direction of selected faculty members, students
choose appropriate courses from two or more areas to create a major
that is meaningful to their desired career path and interests.
