The SLC was established to develop student leadership capabilities in our students. The SLC members hold the following positions within the department: section editors of the newspaper, editor of the yearbook, editor of the magazine, assistant editors, film club president, TV Station and radio station managers, webmaster and more.

These students are responsible for providing leadership to their fellow students in both management of their areas and scholarship. The SLC meets monthly to coordinate activities among the various areas, to provide feedback to the faculty on departmental activities and needs and to organize the annual awards dinner. SLC members also participate in two full days of off-site meetings with the faculty to set strategies and objectives for the department and to share ideas and recommendations with fellow students.

Each member of the SLC receives a scholarship from the Mass Communications Department.
