The Georgia Press Educational Foundation
The
Georgia Press Educational Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit, tax
exempt foundation which was established in 1963 to provide financial
assistance to students studying journalism at colleges and universities
throughout the state.
Now, thanks to
a Centennial Campaign in 1986, GPEF has been able to increase the
sponsorship for foundation programs. Since GPEF began granting students
with scholarships in 1966, the foundation has awarded in excess
of $400,000. Since 1994, GPEF has provided dozens of Georgia newspapers
grants to hire a paid summer intern.
In addition to
awarding scholarships to journalism college students, GPEF awards
newspaper employees with scholarships to attend the Poynter Institute
and the American Press Institute for advanced training.
The Georgia Press
Educational Foundation sponsors Newspapers in Education (NIE) by
providing materials to newspapers, being a source of support to
Georgia Newspapers in Education and hosting seminars and other activities
to benefit NIE.
