Pause wins award

Former Editor-In-Chief of Pause wins award for magazine.

Pause Magazine wins an award

Pause Magazine, Piedmont College's student produced magazine won an award for last year's edition.  We talked to the former magazine editor.

Why do you think Pause won the award?

I think Pause won the award because it shows how much work actually went into the magazine. It is full color and it had a variety of writers from different majors and departments around campus. The magazine gave different stories of people's lives and interests. We were able to basically get the entire school involved just because of the stories and that is a hard thing to do especially on a campus as small as ours. Finding stories on this campus is hard and because we worked hard, we were able to make the magazine great. It became something students wanted to read.

What organization gave Pause the award and what award did it win?

The American Scholastic Press Association awarded us the award for First Place with Special Merit.

What did it take to produce an award-winning magazine?

It took lots of time, amazing time management and patience. I had to work with different kinds of writers and when people are writing about things they know and enjoy, they will give great product. This would not have been possible without my writers meeting their deadlines and giving Sadie Blankenship and me enough time to work on the creativity of the layout. There isn't anything specific that made us award-winning. It was the efforts of all the writers, copy editors and editors that made it happen. The group was full of creativity and that made the magazine what it is today.
