Two weeks ago, four mass communications students embarked on a journey to Jacksonville, Florida for a sports casting internship.  Brian Carter, Cale Padgett, Luke Story, and Tim Suda- escorted by Dr. Dale Van Cantfort, a mass communications professor- headed to Jacksonville. There, they assisted Vanco Productions in producing the video feed for the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tampa Bay Buccaneers pre-season NFL game.

The production took over seven hours to set up.  The Piedmont interns assisted in the arrangement of cameras, including three that live in the scoreboard. They also helped run audio and video cables of live feeds to the field for the pre-game show. 

In addition to helping set up, the students used common sense to solve a few difficulties. For instance, one of the cameras along the 20-yard line was overheated and dysfunctional. Two of the interns rigged up a desk fan that blew cool air through the camera compartments. 

Once everything was positioned, the students prepared for the pre-game show.  During the pre-game show, one of the students helped as a cameraman, while the other three kept people from walking into the shot. 

During the show, Carter, Padgett and Story alternated manning two parabolic microphones used to pick up sounds from the field.  Suda assisted the utility men and kept the video cables straight so that no one would trip over them.

The students returned to Piedmont the next afternoon.  The internship is apart of a sports casting practicum.
