The Lillian Smith Foundation and the Lillian Smith Center are both maintained on the site of the original Laurel Falls Camp for Girls. The facilities are situated on Screamer Mountain in Clayton, Georgia in Rabun County - the most north-eastern county in the state. In the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain range the setting is magnificent - waterfalls, lakes, lush forests and miles of hiking trails. The Southern leg of the Appalachian Trail passes through the western regions of the county and the 18th century trail of explorer William Bartram is still maintained.
